Three Easy Ways To Identify A Cockroach Infestation
- The most conclusive way of knowing you have a cockroach problem is seeing them in your home. Cockroaches are nocturnal so you are most likely to see them at night when you turn on a light.
- Cockroaches leave a dust of black droppings less than 1mm wide and of varying lengths. If you begin to see something like this on your floor, counter tops, or elsewhere in your home you may have a cockroach problem.
- An established cockroach infestation will let off an unpleasant, musty smell.
Pests Commonly Confused with Cockroaches
Cockroaches are unique enough in appearance, habitat, and behavior that they are not often mistaken for other pests.

What Do Cockroaches Look Like?
There are over 4,000 species of cockroaches, of which 30 are known as pests for entering human habitations. The two most common pest cockroaches needing extermination in NC are the American and German cockroaches.
One of the larger species of cockroaches, the American cockroach can range in size from ½ inch to 2 inches in length and can be identified by the tan and yellow pattern on their head. The American cockroach is very aggressive, and although more likely to be found in sewers and drains, these these pests will invade homes seeking warmth and food. They are capable of flight.
The German cockroach is about ⅝ inch long and is light to medium brown in color. They are most easily identified by the two dark lines on the back of their heads. These are the most prevalent cockroaches, not just in North Carolina but across the US. They are do not fly but will use their wings to glide to lower elevations.
Both American and German cockroaches are nocturnal and tend to infest areas located close to food or water, such as kitchens, food closets, and bathrooms. Inside your home they reproduce rapidly and can transmit disease and cause allergic reactions, making them not just unsightly but a health hazard.

How Do You Get Cockroaches?
Cockroaches prefer cool dark places but if their habitat is disturbed they will seek a new home. Human habitats are very appealing to cockroaches due to relatively ample supply of food, water, and a lack of predators. Once cockroaches take hold in the home they will quickly increase their numbers.

What To Expect From Our Treatment
Target The Source: First we identify and target the source of your pest problem with our custom treatment.
Inside Treatment: We then treat the baseboards inside all rooms including the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, basements, and garages. Wherever there is the possibility for a pest to enter your home or make residence, we create a barrier to protect you. We deploy a variety of techniques depending on what works best for your situation, including residual powder, gel, and bait.
Outside Treatment: We create a protective barrier around your home using a granular base around the foundation. We then treat windows and doors, as well as under siding, to keep the pests out. We will also place a granular bait in your flower and mulch beds so that bait is taken back to any potential nests, destroying them.
